History

Birmenstorf was first mentioned in 1160 as Birmilistorf. The village was part of the Habsburg territories in the 14th century and was later included in the district of Baden. In the 19th century, Birmenstorf became an industrial center with several cotton mills and a foundry.

Birmenstorf is situated in the Limmat Valley between the Lägern and the Heitersberg. The municipality includes the village of Birmenstorf and the hamlet of Dintikon. The Limmat River flows through the village.
