Overview
Caprino is a municipality in the district of Bellinzona, in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. It is located in the Leventina valley, on the right bank of the Ticino river. The municipality consists of several small villages and hamlets, including Pianezzo, Molare and Faido.
History
The first known settlement in the Caprino area dates back to the Roman era, with evidence of a bridge over the Ticino river discovered near the village of Pianezzo. In the Middle Ages, the area was part of the county of Bellinzona and later became part of the Duchy of Milan. In 1803, Caprino became part of the newly-formed canton of Ticino.

Caprino has an area of 25.75 square kilometers and is situated at an elevation of 413 meters above sea level. The municipality is located in the Leventina valley and is bordered by the municipalities of Faido, Giornico, Sobrio and Lavizzara. The Ticino river flows through the municipality and the surrounding landscape is characterized by forests and mountains.
