Sant' Antonio is a municipality in the district of Lugano, in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. It is located in the Lugano Prealps, on the slopes of Monte San Giorgio. The municipality consists of the village of Sant' Antonio and several hamlets.

History

The area around Sant' Antonio has been inhabited since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the numerous archaeological finds discovered in the area. In the Middle Ages, the village was part of the county of Seprio and later of the Duchy of Milan. In the 16th century, it came under the control of the Swiss Confederation and became part of the bailiwick of Lugano. In 1803, it became a municipality in the newly established canton of Ticino.
