Overview

Seewis im Oberland is a municipality in the district of Prättigau/Davos in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. It is located in the Prättigau valley and is surrounded by the Rätikon mountain range. The municipality consists of the villages of Seewis Dorf and Seewis-Pardisla.

History

The earliest known settlements in the Seewis area date back to the Bronze Age. The Romans also had a presence in the region and there are remnants of Roman buildings and artifacts that have been discovered in the area. The modern village of Seewis im Oberland was formed in the Middle Ages when two previously separate villages, Seewis Dorf and Seewis-Pardisla, were merged. The village was part of the County of Werdenberg until it was annexed by the Swiss Confederacy in 1798.

Seewis im Oberland has an area of 17.56 square kilometers and is situated at an altitude of 940 meters above sea level. The municipality is located in the Prättigau valley and is surrounded by the Rätikon mountain range. The highest point in the municipality is the Graue Hörner peak, which stands at an altitude of 2,713 meters.
