History

The earliest evidence of human settlement in the area dates back to the Roman era. The name "Tur" is believed to derive from the Latin word "turris," meaning "tower," possibly referring to a watchtower that was located in the area during Roman times. In the Middle Ages, Tur was part of the feud of the Rusca family, who ruled the region until the 15th century. During the following centuries, the village was under the control of various noble families before becoming part of the Swiss Confederation in 1803.
