Bataenja is a municipality in the district of Maloja in the Swiss canton of Grigioni. The village is situated in the Upper Engadine valley, surrounded by the beautiful Swiss Alps. The official language of the municipality is German, but the majority of the population also speaks Romansh.
History
The first written record of Bataenja dates back to the 13th century. The village was originally part of the larger municipality of Sils im Engadin/Segl, but became an independent municipality in 1851.
