Overview
Grumo is a municipality in the district of Bellinzona, in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. The municipality is situated in the Mesolcina valley, on the left bank of the Moesa river. It is located 18 km south of the city of Bellinzona and has a population of approximately 1,200 people.
History
The history of Grumo dates back to the Roman era, as evidenced by the remains of a Roman road that passed through the village. In the Middle Ages, Grumo was a feudal estate and was part of the county of Misox. In the 16th century, Grumo became part of the Grey League, a confederation of ten Alpine villages that resisted foreign domination. During the 19th and 20th centuries, Grumo experienced significant economic and social changes, including the development of a silk industry and the construction of a hydroelectric power plant.

Grumo is situated at an altitude of 337 meters above sea level and covers an area of 8.2 square kilometers. The municipality is surrounded by steep hills covered with chestnut trees and vineyards and is crossed by the Moesa river. The village itself consists of narrow streets and old stone houses, many of which date back to the 16th and 17th centuries.
