Gümmenen is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. It is located approximately 10 kilometers southeast of the city of Bern.

History

Gümmenen is first mentioned in historical records in 1279 as Gomeningen.
In the 13th century, the village came under the control of the city of Bern. During the 15th century, the city granted Gümmenen to the von Erlach family, who ruled over the village until 1798, when it became part of the Canton of Bern.

Gümmenen has an area of 5.9 square kilometers and is situated at an elevation of 513 meters above sea level. The municipality includes the village of Gümmenen and several small hamlets and farms scattered throughout the surrounding countryside. It is bordered by the municipalities of Köniz, Wohlen bei Bern and Kaufdorf.
