Overview
Laeufelfingen is a municipality in the district of Sissach in the canton of Basel-Landschaft in Switzerland. It is located in the Jura Mountains, on the right bank of the river Ergolz.
History
The earliest evidence of human settlement in the Laeufelfingen area dates back to the Bronze Age, with the discovery of a burial mound from around 1000 BCE. The village itself is first mentioned in historical records in 1173, as Loufelfingen. In the Middle Ages, it was part of the county of Frohburg and later came under the control of the city of Basel. It became an independent municipality in 1833.
Geography
Laeufelfingen has an area of 7.18 square kilometers, of which about two-thirds is forested. The municipality is located in the Jura Mountains, at an altitude of around 550 meters above sea level. The Ergolz river flows through the village and there are several small lakes in the surrounding area.

As of 2021, Laeufelfingen has a population of around 1,500 people. The majority of the population is German-speaking and Protestant. The village has seen steady population growth over the past few decades, due in part to its proximity to the cities of Basel and Zurich.
