Overview

Prât-Borgno is a village and former municipality in the district of Sion in the canton of Valais, Switzerland. It was merged with the municipality of Chippis on January 1, 2013.

History

The area of Prât-Borgno has been inhabited since ancient times. The first written mention of the village dates back to the 12th century, when it was known as Prato Borgno. In the Middle Ages, the village was an important center of agriculture and viticulture and many of the old farmhouses and vineyards still remain today. In 2013, the municipality of Prât-Borgno was merged with Chippis.

Geography

Prât-Borgno is located in the Rhône valley, at an altitude of approximately 520 meters. The village is situated on the right bank of the Rhône river and is surrounded by vineyards and orchards. The nearby mountains provide a beautiful backdrop to the village.

As of 2012, Prât-Borgno had a population of 260. The majority of the population speaks French (85.8%), with German being the second most common language (6.5%).
