Overview

Rheinau is a municipality in the district of Andelfingen in the canton of Zurich, Switzerland. It is located in the northern part of the canton, close to the German border. The municipality has a population of around 2,500 people and covers an area of 10.7 square kilometers.

History

The area around Rheinau has been inhabited since ancient times, with evidence of settlement dating back to the Bronze Age. In the Middle Ages, Rheinau was an important religious center, with a Benedictine monastery founded in the 9th century.
