Overview

Vitg Dado is a municipality in the district of Surselva in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland. It is located in the upper part of the Vorderrhein valley, in the Rhaeto-Romance speaking region of Surselva.

History

Vitg Dado was first mentioned in historical documents in 1210 as "Villa Dedoni". The area has been inhabited since prehistoric times and during the Roman era, it was an important trading center. In the Middle Ages, it was part of the lands of the Bishopric of Chur and later it came under the control of the Lords of Sax-Misox. In 1367, it was acquired by the League of God's House, which was a confederation of various Graubünden municipalities.

Geography

Vitg Dado has an area of 49.13 square kilometers and is located at an altitude of 1,125 meters above sea level. It is situated in the Surselva district and is surrounded by several mountains, including the Piz Medel and Piz Terri. The municipality includes the villages of Selva, Somvix, Dardin and Bucchin, as well as several hamlets.
