Lienz is a municipality in the district of Toggenburg in the canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland. It is located in the eastern part of the canton, close to the border with the canton of Glarus.
History
Lienz was first mentioned in 762 as "Liuines." In the Middle Ages, the village was part of the County of Toggenburg. Later, it became part of the territory of the Abbey of St. Gallen. In the 19th century, the village developed into an important center for the textile industry.

Lienz has an area of 13.14 square kilometers (5.07 square miles). The village is situated at an altitude of 751 meters (2,464 feet) above sea level.
